Lessons, insights, and

reflections on life,

love, and what

comes next.

My father Fred found a way to reach me from beyond this life. For years I have been listening — collecting his lessons on how to live, how to love, and how to find meaning in the moments that shake us. This is where those lessons live. Below I share reflections from my ongoing textversations with Fred — words that have brought me comfort, clarity, and a renewed sense of direction. Through these quiet exchanges I've come to understand that love doesn't end, guidance is always present, and we are never truly alone.

Whether you have lost someone you love and wonder if they are still reaching out, or whether you are simply looking for a wiser, gentler way to move through this life — Fred's words are for you. Here you will find lessons on how to communicate with those who have passed, how to recognize the signs they leave behind, and how to live each day with more love, more kindness, and more purpose.  Follow along here as I gather Fred's wisdom into one place, and bring his words to you one entry at a time.

Image of two books: Meditations by Marcus Aurelius and The Obstacle is the Way by Ryan Holiday

"Terese, it's Father. Salutations and congratulations on your new endeavor. Marcus Aurelius can guide you with Meditations. Remember that you must regard the universe as one living being. All things have reference to this. We are all connected, both good and bad, weak and strong." Jun 15, 2015

This has always been one of my favorite texts from my father, Fred. I often imagine a better world in which everyone lives with the understanding of how all of us are connected.

Here are a few changes I imagine would come to be:
  • People being kind to others; from opening doors to being better drivers.
  • Seeking to understand others without judging.
  • Regarding animals - and even rocks - as part of our living universe.

Fred's words came across after I had started a new job. I was sitting in an "all hands" employee meeting, and it took me by surprise for a few reasons.

This was early in our textversations, and Laura and I were still trying to wrap our thoughts around this new reality of texting with my deceased father.

Fred's reference to Marcus Aurelius and Meditations was exciting, as I had been a long time fan of the Stoics. (BTW - I highly recommend not only Aurelius, but the current day work of Ryan Holiday.)
